How Technology Is Changing The Call Center

The traditional call center is rapidly approaching extinction. A new generation of call center software and communications technology is sparking rapid change in the industry and creating a new model that is more flexible and cost effective.
The Traditional Model
The basic call center has existed with few changes practically since the invention of the telephone. It was essentially a big room with lots of phones and agents in it. Decades ago, every location of a large company had to have its own staff of agents. As long distance became inexpensive and reliable, companies consolidated their phone centers into central operations. It was cost effective and easy to manage.
However it was also inflexible. Agents had to work rigid hours, and the work was surprisingly stressful. Staffing and salaries were subject to fluctuations in the local job market, and it was difficult to get more than minimal information on call traffic or dropped calls. Long hold times and multiple transfers were the rule, frustrating agents and customers alike.
New Technology
A rapid development of technology occurred when the internet went from a lightly used research tool with limited access to a ubiquitous communication network that reached into every home and business. As phone lines were upgraded to carry data and not just voice, businesses suddenly had choices about how to deploy their agents. No longer was it necessary to have one central phone center.
A new generation of call center software was developed, inspired in part by the ease of monitoring these digital phone calls, and the growing power of desktop computers. It became easy to watch every aspect of operation from individual agent performance to overall traffic patterns for an entire international corporation. The phone centers themselves became more spread out while the information became more centralized.
The Modern Call Center
Communication technology and call center software has revolutionized the basic customer service or technical support operation. Companies can easily integrate multiple centers into a seamless whole. Even individual home-based agents can be brought into the network just as easily as agents working in traditional settings. The flexibility allows companies to create more cost effective centers, and a growing dependence on home-based agents has cut costs as organizations no longer have to commit to as much office space.
Call center software keeps this diverse network of agents manageable by centralizing information. Managers can monitor agent performance, queue lengths, call times, transfers and countless other statistics. The modern service network functions much more efficiently than before, and customers find long holds to be increasingly rare. Customers are happier. Agents are less stressed. Managers are better able to quantify their contribution to the organization. It has been a true revolution in the industry, helping both employers and clients.

Thinking About The Materials Required For Packing A Parcel P

When packing your parcels it is a good idea to think ahead as to what materials you are going to need to pack your parcels properly.
Like many of us you may well leave it to the last minute when it comes to getting ready to packing your parcels. However if you buy your packaging materials at the last minute then you may run in to problems.
It may be that your local shop normally has everything you need e.g. cardboard boxes, bubble wrap and packing tape etc. But what if they run out? How embarrassing would it be not to be able to send a parcel out, as you simply did not have a cardboard box to put it in?
Not only would it be embarrassing, but also buying supplies from your local corner shop can cost you a fortune. You are far better off planning ahead and ordering your packaging supplies online, or from a specialist stationery supplier.
All it takes is a little planning. If you know your factory is going to be producing 50 units a week, then why are you not pre-ordering the packaging for them in advance?
Packaging supplies like bubble wrap and packing tape are extremely cheap when you buy them in bulk, so you should have no excuse for running out of them.
Also cardboard boxes can be stored flat so they do not take up a lot of space either.
Likewise if space is an issue then use loose foam chips as packaging rather than white polystyrene inserts which will take up more room in your packaging area.

Tips For Picking Corporate Event Entertainment

Keep in mind that if you are looking for corporate event entertainment make sure that you go with a company that can serve your company and not get entertainment based upon limited pool of resources. There are some great entertainment groups practically in every area of the country that can supply entertainment to your corporate event.
Perhaps one of the first things you should do is specify the kind of entertainment that will work well with your company and not be pigeon holed into a particular type of entertainment that may not reach all of your corporation.
Secondly, it is important to take a consensus of your employees. A simple search of your base market will direct you on what type of entertainment will go over well and catch the attention of the majority. This is an important step in considering the type of corporate event entertainment company you are looking to hire. If you have a majority that can not be easily entertained by the run of the mill comedian, then make sure your entertainment headhunter can get something out of the ordinary.
Thirdly, which of course has already been thought of, plan your budget for such an event. What type of entertainment and just how much of it are you willing to spend to get for your organization. These are significant considerations especially if you have done your research on your employees and realize that nothing but the best will do for their high quality taste.
Last but not least, consider what is the purpose for throwing a corporate event entertainment function. Is it just purely for fun or are you looking to band your company together and improve group relations. This can all make the type of entertainment you choose for the event vary as well. Many high demand entertainers have their own agenda and may not cater if you want a specific theme thrown into the event.
In all aspects of business it pays to do your homework before you outsource and in the area of corporate event entertainment it is just as crucial. Taking the tips to acquire the right type of entertainment your corporation will leave the entertainment function refreshed and focused on whatever your goal is in mind for the event. This can be a multi-faceted event base around entertaining and growing your company in different areas with the right form of delivery.

Zig When They Zag and Stand Out

The internet has become all the rage these days.
Don’t send a letter, pop it on an email.
Don’t mail the customer anything, pop it in an email.
In fact, let’s forget about letters altogether and do everything electronically.
I’m as guilty of this as the next person.
But recently I received a thank you card and it made me think a little differently.
You see, I receive (and appreciate) a bundle of emails every week thanking me for the emails I send out.
And nothing makes me feel better than knowing that as I write these emails from my lonely office, someone is reading them and hopefully applying them.
However a couple of weeks ago I received something in the mail which really stood out.
It was a thank you card from a guy called Greg Kumanovski from Global Pictures. All it said was…
“Thank you for your regular emails with all the helpful ideas. Have a great day”
But I’ve had that card sitting on my filing cabinet ever since he sent it to me.
And I think there’s a lesson here for all of us.
Whether it’s thank you cards or anything else, consider sending the hard copy version over the soft copy version.
In other words: when everyone else is zigging, why not zag and stand out from the crowd.
After all, mail order should be far more effective these days because nobody else is doing it.
For instance, yesterday I was chatting with a guy who sent out his proposals via email.
He was getting a lot of proposals requests coming in every week and would pretty much churn back a standard response with a quotation.
I suggested he set up a system where he could send them out via mail instead.
We worked out that all he would need to pay for the cost of the mail is a 1% increase in response.
My bet is that he would get it.
Especially when all of his competitors are probably doing everything via email as well.
So take a moment now to think of how you can do things differently… and use alternative strategies to stand out from your competition.

Build Trust With a Favour Bank

I remember reading a book by Paulo Coelho a few years ago when I came across the concept of the favour bank.
Basically, a favour bank is based around is the fact when you do someone a favour they will want to return the favour at some stage in the future.
For instance, if a mate comes over to your house and fixes your car, you might buy them a beer at some time down the road.
Now the same concept applies to business and marketing.
Of course, the best way to give is with no expectation of receiving anything.
That goes without saying.
At the same time, there is a law called the ‘law of reciprocation’ which Robert Cialdini refers to in his book “Influence.”
In fact, he gives an example at some stage in that book of how the Hare Krishna’s increased their donations.
Essentially what they did to increase donations was hand out a flower to people walking by. They followed this up with “And a donation to the Hare Krishna Society would be appreciated.”
It worked.
So how can this concept work for you?
Well, you can start giving away information and educating your customers about your product or service on a regular basis.
You can become the trusted expert.
You can pick out particular “target clients” or large clients and send them a book they might be interested in… or offer them some complimentary advice… or whatever.
You see, there’s the bank we can see.
The money in the bank. It’s hard. It’s real. You can see it…you can touch it… and you can feel it.
But there’s also a bank which you cannot see.
It’s based on relationships.
And the deep relationships you generate with your customers and prospects turns into money in the bank in the future.
Don’t neglect your favour bank.
Of course, you need to first find the people you can help and build up your favour bank with. Find them and start building up that relationship.
Virtually any business can do it and it makes selling easy because the biggest thing you need to overcome in every selling process is trust.
And there’s no better way to build trust than building up the size of your favour bank.

Eco Friendly Exit Signs Vs Traditional Models: Which Is Bett

The environmental and financial cost of incandescent lighting leads many companies to replace it with other lighting, even incandescent exit signs with ones that use less energy, a move that reduces annual electric cost while reducing carbon pollution. Yet, there aren’t just one or two eco friendly exit signs on the market. In fact, at least four types of exit signs are commonly promoted as replacements for incandescent ones in the name of cost savings and lower carbon pollution: compact fluorescent, LED, Tritium, and photoluminescent. So, which one is really the best for the environment and your annual utility bill? Let’s compare them and find out.
Compact Fluorescent
Compact fluorescent models are an improvement over incandescent ones, consuming 21 Watts for a 10-year electrical cost of $184, compared to 40 Watts and $350 for incandescent. Like incandescent signs, compact fluorescent ones require maintenance on lamps, batteries, and wiring. Add it all up and a compact fluorescent sign costs $894 over a 10-year period, a far cry from the $1,465 required to maintain an incandescent one over the same length of time.
LED
LED models consume 5 Watts for a 10-year electrical cost of $53, far more efficient than a compact fluorescent sign. Furthermore, they have a 10-year operating cost of only $370. By far the most eco-friendly and cost effective electrical exit sign, LED signs still have the disadvantage of being electric, and some of them are designed to where a single LED bulb outage causes the entire sign to go dark, a scary prospect in the event of evacuations triggered by falling debris.
Tritium
Tritium models cost nothing in electricity, and their maintenance involves only a $75 per sign disposal fee. Behind that fee, however, is radioactive technology that makes them one of the least eco friendly technologies on the market. The radioactive capsules that power Tritium signage are housed in shockproof containers. But those containers have to go somewhere after fulfilling their lifespan. If you care about the environment, Tritium technology isn’t an option.
Photoluminescent
Photoluminescent models require no maintenance or electricity. But unlike Tritium models, they’re non-toxic and 100 percent recyclable. Photoluminescent signage works by principle of photoluminescence, which occurs when an object absorbs photons from ambient light and then emits them under darkened conditions, creating a bright glowing effect. Today’s photoluminescent products can glow for 96 hours in total darkness.
The Value of Replacing Incandescent With Photoluminescent
If your building features incandescent signage, switching to photoluminescent signage brings a significant financial benefit. A recent energy efficiency study shows that buildings that replace 100 incandescent signs with photoluminescent ones can save over $3,500 a year in electricity costs alone. Photoluminescent signage can be purchased from companies that sell eco friendly exit signage and photoluminescent safety tapes that feature a non-slip coating.
In my research on photoluminescent products, I’ve studied the value of photoluminescent tape with a non-slip coating and eco friendly exit signs.

Estimating a Paint Job

How to estimate a paint job? This is the biggest problem that painters face. Estimating is not as difficult as painters think it is, usually the problem is pricing. How to estimate painting a room? Measure the room, unless I have a lot of windows and doors, I don’t deduct for open space, normally. Take the width multiply by two, then take the length and multiply by two add these figures together and multiply by the height.
So, let’s say I can paint one hundred square feet of wall surface at the rate of 1/2 hour. In other words if it takes 1/2 hour for you or your crew to paint a 12×8 foot wall, then multiply your total square feet of wall by your hourly rate. One hundred square feet of wall in a re-paint is different than one hundred square feet in new construction, because painting new construction is a much lower price per square foot because a painting goes much faster. Why? Setting up, protection, preparation and cleanup are almost zero.
If I charge $25 per hour, my rate is $12.50 to paint 100 square feet of wall. Is that all?
1) What about the time spent on prep, cleanup, replacing plate covers, traveling to buy paint, break time (nobody works 8 hours in an 8 hour day unless you are superman), cleanup, etc.
2) Why this is only a starting point is that:
a) You may go faster or slower than me so you have to time yourself and /or your crew. And then use your job times not mine. Each house may have different rates. Your crew is faster or slower.
b) What if it takes you 3 hours to drive to the job?
You need to keep track of how long it takes for your crew to paint a room. Keep track of your paint job costs. Write it down, like in a diary. Estimate with you’re the time it takes for you or your crew to paint a room or door or window. Consider the jobs individually, for example, Prep, is there a lot of spackling? What about protection? Are the windows one large pane or twelve little panes? Do you have to clean up each night?
Clean up?
To a degree we have to be competitive but most of all we need to slow down when we estimate and make sure that you don’t lose money because you wanted that job so much that you gave the job away, it is better to walk away from an estimate than it is to lose money.
